Overview

The graphic designer Milan Vesely collaborated with most of the Slovak publishing houses and left behind an incredible amount of graphic artwork from the area of book production and typography. He played a significant role in theatre poster design and he also designed posters for fashion exhibitions and music festival exhibitions. He was also very active in print making - he made many posters for galleries, museums, and theatres. This publication highlights book design and illustration, poster design and exhibition design, and includes a list of Milan Vesely's many creations.

After graduating from the School of Applied Arts in Bratislava in 1958, Milan Vesely (1939 - 2015) worked for the Merkur advertising agency from 1958 to 1960. After 1960, he worked as a freelance artist, he was registered at the Slovak Fund of Fine Arts and became a member of the Union of Slovak Fine Artists. In 1963 he married Slovak actress Zita Furkova and in 1990, Vesely founded the N&V DESIGN company. In the field of book graphic design and illustrations, Vesely collaborated with all of the well-known publishing houses. Vesely played a significant role in theater poster design and also designed posters for fashion exhibitions. The most prominent of his large, award-winning historical expositions was the exposition at the Slovak National Uprising Monument in Banska Bystrica in 2004 when the Monument was named Museum of the Year.
