Overview

This volume contains a collection of papers devoted to all aspects of the study of plant lipid metabolism and molecular biology. It is an indication of our present state of knowledge of this very broad field, with information on recent studies in fatty acid and glycerolipid biosynthesis, membranes, isoprenoids and sterols, environmental effects on lipids, lipid degradation, oil seeds and fruits, and molecular biology and biotechnology. Particular emphasis in this volume is on the metabolism and molecular biology of oil seed plants, such as brassicas, Arabidopsis and soybean, and other oil-producing plants, such as olive and oil palm. Basic metabolic studies on a variety of microorganisms and plants from cyanobacteria to higher plants are also included. Audience: This book is a good reference source for research scientists in universities, government or private laboratories interested in the basic science of plant lipid metabolism and in the genetic engineering of plants for improved oil quality and novel oil composition.

Reviews

'The book is a must for all scientists in plant lipid research and a valuable source of information for plant physiologists, biochemists and plant molecular biologists.' Journal of Plant Physiology, 152:1 'The volume is addressed to scientists and PhDstudents, actively involved in a lipid research. Also, it may be recommended to those academic teachers who are looking for a critical review of what is going in certain lipid research areas.' Acta Physiologiae Plantarum, 2:3 (1998)
