Overview

Aimed primarily at physicians engaged in plasma research, nonlinear physics and radiophysics, this monograph considers the physics of collective phenomena in beams of charged particles which propagate through plasma, both from an experimental and a theoretical point of view. It also describes physically related phenomena in intense beams propagating through vacuum. A series of experimental studies investigating the most important collective phenomena in beams for a wide range of energies is examined. A theoretical approach, unlikely to create difficulties for the reader who is primarily an experimentalist, is also outlined in detail.

... a clear and concise description of the many instabilities which exist in a beam in free propagation which casts new light on these phenomena...written in a very clear style...highly interesting to read...has a good bibliography...I strongly recommend this book as a good purchase for anybody working in the area of beam transport. Plasma Physics and Controlled Fusion ... a beautifully organized and written book ... a valuable resource - a real physicist's book. ... Nezlin's book is written for experimentalists ... just the right amount of detail ... sufficient physical insight ... to understand and design experiments. ... no one else ... could have produced such a knowledgeable treatise If any researcher wants to do experiments with beams in plasmas, this book would be the ideal start.
