Persons Who Are Poems from High School: Annotated Reminiscences of Friendship and Prejudice

Overview

In Persons Who Are Poems from High School, linked narratives explore today's ethics problems; problems that existed but seemed less important when I was in high school. I include as an ethics problem lack of access to oral contraception, due to prejudices that still exist today from some physicians, parents and teachers. These high school stories have become more important to me since I recently saw the French operatic film, The Umbrellas of Cherbourg, on television; a film I first saw in high school in a movie theatre. This film now transports my heart back to the warmth of my high school years, but also resurrects the chilliness of struggling with the assassinations of President Kennedy and Dr. King, and witnessing ""the horrors"" of the Vietnam War on TV.
