OverviewIt is difficult for the story of a book to be as controversial and angst-ridden as the story which has inspired it, however, this is certainly the case with Persona non grata. The multiple censorship, explicit and unspoken, that cut and asphyxiated this text during different times and in different countries branded Jorge Edwards as inconvenient and vane, as a CIA agent and a failed writer, and other insults fruit of the defamation campaigns led by ideological fundamentalists. This testimony was reconstructed in 1982 so that what once was so polemic and hurtful can be read with the serenity that distance allows and the confirmation that time has given to the experiences lived by the author in Cuba at the beginning of the 1970s, similar to those of so many others who hid them from the collective memory.
