Outlaws in the Outer Fringe

Overview

Outlaws in the Outer Fringe casts you as a freelance crew trying to make a living in the rough-and-tumble region of space known as the Outer Fringe. It is a time of galactic civil war: the military imperium has overthrown the galactic democracy and now rules through authoritarian control, severely restricting civil liberties. In response, scattered cells of freedom fighters have formed across several worlds, waging a losing battle against the imperium's overwhelming power. In this war-torn galaxy, you begin as an unknown crew with a small starship and a handful of credits, choosing your own path to wealth and fame in the Outer Fringe. You may smuggle illegal cargo through military blockades, hunt down wanted criminals, take on jobs for the criminal underworld, upgrade and modify your ship, transport passengers, and battle pirates-all while evading space raiders, imperium patrols, and relentless bounty hunters. Your goal is to make a name for yourself by earning a total of 10 Renown, establishing your position as a major player in this volatile region of space. Dodging military patrols, delivering contraband, upgrading your ship, capturing criminals, and completing missions are just a few of the ways to gain Renown-but be warned: it's just as easy to fall as it is to rise. Welcome to the Outer Fringe. Outlaws in the Outer Fringe is a print-and-play space-opera board game built on a familiar d20-system rules chassis. You create your character or crew, generate a space sector as a sandbox to explore, and then embark on your journey using a structured, round-based game loop. This is a stand-alone game, though familiarity with role-playing games and d20-system mechanics is assumed.
