OverviewThe book centres on the lives of 6 Bricknell brothers, 4 of whom emigrated from the UK to South Africa at the turn of the 20th Century. Milford Haven, in Wales, was where the family had settled and where their parents, William (1851-1943) and Sarah (1846-1937), and 2 of the brothers remained for the rest of their lives. The story is created using a combination of census details, birth and death records and the personal memories of children and grandchildren of these 6 brothers and what caused 4 of the brothers to make the monumentous decision to leave their motherland for the challenges of the unknown experience that was South Africa. The book contains more than 80 photos and other diagrams that help the story to come alive. In additon, the 150 page book looks at topics that include the origins of the Bricknell surname, some of the earliest recorded Bricknells, coat of arms considerations and pedigree charts of the family and descendents of John Bricknell, born ca. 1755 and who raised his family in Devonshire, England. Table of ContentsReviewsAuthor InformationBradley was born in South Africa, and over time developed an interest in what motivated his great-grandfather to emigrate from his home in Wales in 1914 to South Africa. From 2004 Bradley spent 3 years in the UK, and it was during that time that he visited Milford Haven, birthplace of his great-grandfather. Armed with only an address from his grandfather which was supposed to be the birthplace of his great-grandfather and a sprinkling of family history enthusiasm he headed off one weekend to the south-west corner of Wales. A series of amazing coincidences led him to meet a family member, who was a three-time mayor of Milford Haven, and learn the story of the Bricknell legacy. That started the journey of research and discovery that resulted in him gathering the information that details the amazing story of emigrants who risked all in order to find a better life for their families in some remote part of the African continent. Bradley has 5 children and a wife who shares his fascination with family history. He has a Ph.D. in the field of Chemisry. Tab Content 6Author Website:Countries AvailableAll regions |
