Overview

Organization Development is concerned with using planned and systematic approaches to help develop more effective organizations. This is done by taking an objective look at how an organization is operating, gathering information and then deciding on the most appropriate action to help that organization change and develop. Written by two of the leading experts in the field, Organization Development defines OD and describes how it can be used effectively in today's economy to create organizations which maximise organizational capability. The authors provide practical advice on using diagnostics techniques to identify an organization's needs and explain how to use them across a range of areas including; change, culture and organization design. Bridging the gap between theory and practice, Organization Development provides a wealth of helpful advice for OD practitioners, HR professionals and those with an interest in helping develop their organization.

Reviews

Cheung-Judge and Holbeche have given a wonderful gift to the field of organization development and to OD and HR practitioners of all levels of experience. This book offers a remarkable combination of history of the pioneers, review of important thinkers and theories about organization change and leadership, as well as a how-to resource for the practitioner, including many illuminating case studies. Judy Vogel, OD Practitioner Journal An excellent compendium of essential OD and HR theories, approaches and practices to help practitioners understand what is involved in, and how to go about, planned organizational change. Robert J Marshak, PhD, Author of Covert Processes at Work and Organizational Change: Views from the edge In these leaner and leaner times, the practical guidance of this book ensures that OD/ HR professionals and organization leaders have the tools and know-how to create and sustain healthy organizations. Dean Royles, Director, NHS Employers Mee-Yan's passion as an educator shines through on every page. She provides the theory from which practitioners can design impactful interventions. Dame Julie Mellor, Partner, Consulting, PricewaterhouseCoopers The book comes into its own by clearly differentiating what benefits OD brings but being careful to point out that it is vital to go through a series of steps rather than trying to jump in mid way through as we're probably all tempted to do at times. HR Network (Scotland) The 'postscript section'...provides a very useful, almost crib-like option for the reader to get an overview of what the subject is about. HR Network (Scotland)
