Excerpt from Order of Service for Use on the Sabbath Before Thanksgiving Day: Nineteen Hundred and Five, in Commemoration of the 250th Anniversary of the Settlement of the Jews in the United States To the Rabbis and Presidents of the Jewish Congregations of the United States: The Executive Committee in charge of the Celebration of the 250th Anniversary of the Settlement of the Jews in the United States, with the co-operation of the various Rabbinical and Congregational Unions of the Country, has taken steps to arrange for the observance of this anniversary in the various synagogues of the country on the Sabbath before Thanksgiving Day, 1905, which will be observed this year on Thursday, November 30. In order to secure the widest observance of this anniversary, a Committee on Form of Prayer was appointed on May 16 1905, consisting of the following: Rev. Dr. H. Pereira Mendes (Chairman), Rev. Dr. M. H. Harris, Rev. Dr. Philip Klein, Rev. Dr. K. Kohler, Dr. S. Schechter, Rev. Dr. Samuel Schulman and Rev. Dr. Joseph Silverman. This Committee has prepared the enclosed service, including a Prayer. We earnestly request that on the Sabbath mentioned your congregation unite in the Celebration, and in order to insure a uniform ritual throughout the country, that use be made of the accompanying Order of Service.
