"I've always loved to write. My first short story was published when I was about ten years old. Over the years, I've written for newspapers, political campaigns, charitable organizations and for children. This book was my first foray into adult literature. In order to tell this entire story, I have had to write under a pen name, S. Melissa Hausen. ""Lissa McCloud,"" in the book. Writing the very personal events in One Step Ahead of The Devil was the most difficult project I've ever undertaken. I have bared my soul in these pages, and that was not easy for me. I'm a rather private person. It wasn't until the ninth attempt that I was able to write about these incredible events that took me into national politics. But this was a famous case that had long-lasting effects. I wanted others to know that there is no stopping the person who has truth on their side and keeps on coming. There were those who tried to tell me that I could not win in this situation, because the government was too big and too corrupt. But I did not believe them. This was the United States, and I believed that our laws still worked. So I took on a task that everyone said was impossible. . . and I won. At some point in the future, I will be writing a book about ""The Strong Woman."" I never thought of myself as strong until after this battle. But then a high-ranking woman in politics told Sam Donaldson of ABC, ""That Lissa McCloud is one strong woman!"" So I guess I am strong. But I do not believe strength can be effective without grace as well. In the future, I intend to share those events and practices that shaped me into a strong woman."
