Overview

Award-winning author Carla Rachel Sameth--a Jewish queer single mother of a multiracial (Black and Jewish) son--builds a memoir that is courageous, heartwarming, and riveting. Her dream of being a good mother and creating a perfect family is buffeted through circumstances and choices she can't always control. Miscarriages, racism, economic hardships, her son's struggle with drugs, social injustice all test her resolve. Sameth has us cheering in her corner as we swing from crisis to crisis with her, sometimes finding dark humor in situations, but always finding unflagging, unconditional love and devotion in her life story.
