OverviewRobert Fludd (1574-1637) had a remarkable mind. He was steeped in the hermetic philosophy of previous generations, yet was open to all the intellectual and technological developments of his time. The opening books of his great work, the History of Both Worlds, deal with the Macrocosm. The first of these is a account of the Beginnings of the Macrocosm, its emergence out of nothing, and the formation of the structure of the various heavens that descended from the highest spiritual realm down to the gross Earth, like the layers of an onion. He shows how the Prime Matter condensed and formed the various structures of which the Universe is composed. This includes some of the engravings.
