Overview

Older Yet Faster (OYF) is a manual for teaching runners how to transition to efficient running and help them avoid incurring almost all of the common running injuries as they do so. The book is ideal for beginners to learn how to run well, and for experienced runners to change over to good technique. Coaches can also use this book as a reference on how to implement technique change for their clients, and we expect it will become the go-to manual for medical and allied health professionals to help them deal with running-related injuries caused by incorrect technique and poor footwear choices. This book can also be a self-help guide for non-runners to heal common ailments holistically by following Heidi's treatment method. This fourth edition expands on the original work with updated content, including advanced strengthening exercises, rehabilitation strategies, and insights into the latest in running footwear. Whether you're a seasoned marathoner or a newcomer to the sport, *Older Yet Faster* offers a path to running smoother, faster, and injury-free. Discover the groundbreaking running technique guide by Keith Bateman and Heidi Jones, designed to help runners of all levels transition to efficient and injury-free running. In *Older Yet Faster*, readers will learn how to avoid common running-related injuries through Keith's comprehensive lessons on running form, coupled with Heidi's revolutionary foot strengthening and rehabilitation programs. Heidi details her holistic treatment method, which not only addresses running injuries but also corrects common body alignment issues. Readers will find her methods empowering as they regain confidence in their ability to heal themselves and improve their posture permanently. She has also included a section for podiatrists, where she applies the laws of physics to the feet, legs, and spine, shedding light on foot conditions that have long remained a mystery. Additionally, she critiques current podiatry teachings, highlights the negative effects of long-term orthotic use, and examines the problems with modern footwear, including school shoes. Podiatrists and other health professionals will find this engineering-based approach groundbreaking.

My purchase of the decade! In a world full of fads, quick fixes, and people cashing in on what's fashionable, it's rare to find a book that's honest, effective and does exactly what it claims. With years of personal experience from both authors and feedback from 100's of clients coached by Keith all condensed into an easy to follow program to help you recover from all the common injuries runners encounter. Then there is the foot strengthening exercises to prepare you for running with correct form. These exercises were created by the co author Heidi who has a wealth knowledge and experience helping patients and runners strengthen and fix their feet, in her role as a podiatrist. These are all easy to follow with concise instructions and diagrams to follow. You will see and feel a change in your feet within the first week. You will become more aware of how neglected and underused the muscles in you feet have been. Then there's the lessons themselves. Simple, easy to follow and understand, they will teach you the common pitfalls most runners encounter and show you how to rectify. Years and years of trail and error and feedback have gone into these exercises (and the whole book) to make them simple yet effective. All you need to bring with you is commitment. Sold? Hang on, there's more, much more. Not only do you get a wealth of knowledge gained over years of running and fixing patients - there is a bank of videos online with every exercise and lesson to watch over. Not sure if you're doing it right?, watch the video, pause it, watch it again. It's all demonstrated and talked through so you will get it right. Still not sure? There's more - to help you with every step of your transition you will be supported my the online group which is growing daily. Everyone is at different stages of correcting their form and they will offer you feedback, constructive criticism, advice and tips to help you achieve everything being taught. You really are getting so much more than you pay for and it works. Since buying the book it has helped me fix my Achilles, visibly strengthen my feet, recognise what I'm doing wrong when running and begin the road to correcting it. I'm engaging the muscles I should be using and have started to feel the speed benefits of running with good form, and I am only in the early stages. This isn't my purchase of the year, it's my purchase of the decade. Excellent and clearly articulated. This book is a must for any barefoot athlete or running casual or serious. While I have been running barefoot style for some time, I even found this book so detailed and yet simple enough to make profound changes to how I run. I effortlessly found I was able to shave time off my pace by following the OYF guidelines. Thanks Keith and Heidi for your fantastic book! The best practical guide to developing optimal running form As an athletics coach, this is my ""go to"" book for helping people improve their running form. There are 100's of books on the topic but this one nails it ... with a truly practical approach to getting better. The explanations, the advice, the drills, the video demonstrations blend perfectly to help you get there. BTW - It's not just for older people, it's for anyone who wants to improve their running form !

Keith Bateman - Competitor and coachFrom the age of 45 Keith's running times improved dramatically, culminating in a host of State, National and World age-group records. The records that he set in the 55-age-group were faster than the records he set in the 45-age-group! In the space of nine months, Keith broke five 55-age-group World Records: 1500m (4:12.35), 1 mile (4:35.04), 3000m (8:56.80), 5000m (15:29.7) and 10000m (31:51.86).Keith's technique-change lessons combine with Heidi's Strengthening and Rehabilitation programs to form the core of this book. Keith also provides a chapter for coaches who want to introduce technique change for their runners. Heidi Jones - Competitor and podiatrist Heidi has been a life-long runner and became a podiatrist to fix running injuries. She graduated in 1996 and she runs her own clinic at Bondi, called Feet On The Move. After orthotics failed to meet her expectations, Heidi devised a foot-strengthening program as an alternative. This has proven to be very successful in treating runners, non-runners and children. Heidi combines her strengthening program with Keith's technique-change lessons to form the core of this book. Heidi also provides a chapter for podiatrists and other medical professionals treating runners, which describes how to implement her program. Dr Van den Borre's professional qualifications include a PhD in biology from the Australian National University (ANU), more than ten years experience in scientific research at the ANU and the University of Sydney, as well as professional training in technical and scientific writing and editing (Canberra Institute of Technology).
