Overview

"Pocket-size astronomy field guide features northern deep-sky objects to Magnitude 10 for telescope and binocular observation. All known galaxies, clusters and nebulae were painstakingly culled from every major catalog, organized and cross-referenced for ease of use at the viewing site. Object-oriented maps include special symbols to aid in finding and identifying the objects, stars, double stars, and asterisms. Simple enough for the beginner yet detailed for the advanced. The digest-sized, coil bound, fully updated OiTHv4 features 697 deep-sky objects visible from the northern hemisphere, all with current hyparcos data. Those objects of mag 7 and brighter - affectionately termed ""city"" objects - are highlighted in the lists and in the 70 tightly redrawn maps. Astronomical details are in ""expanded shorthand"" and set large for reading at night by flashlight and articles on equipment type, filters, magnification and RA/Dec (right ascension and declination) are included. Newly included are 152 double/multiple stars, 75 carbon stars and 73 dimmer objects to mag-10.5. Original constellation grouping stories provide a memorable way to see the bigger picture; the stories have proven helpful in teaching the sky to kids of all ages. This multi-purpose guide is most convenient at the viewing site instead of larger, bulkier books and computers, or as a companion to the larger sky atlases when planning a night's viewing. It's compact size makes it ideal for camping, hiking or in the car. 22 photos graciously provided by Naoyuki Kurita"
