Overview

The idea behind this collaboration project came from a group of artists hanging around my ""Bird Chatter"" booth during the RTIA (Reno Tahoe International Art Show 2023). I remember saying ""If I win the Best of Show category, I want to use the winnings to fund a pace for a group project. It will be statewide to showcase how amazing Nevada artists are and it will have a collaborative component to it."" The work will not belong to any one person and all the works will be donated to Double Scoop Arts. Proceeds from the sales will go to help fund arts writing in Nevada."" I did win. The NV Awe: Tiny Treasures project organically developed between friends playing with Gelatin. Austin Pratt, Rachel Stiff and Jayna Conkey joined me in my studio for a day of fun using Gelatin plates to create monotype prints. There were little wooden discs in a pile nearby and everyone just started to press them into the gelatin. Serendipity - the substrate for the project was figured out! The best ideas come from play and getting together.

As an artist, Candace Nicol Garlock uses an array of mediums in her work. The coalescence of printmaking techniques, painting, photography (and sculpture, too!) overlap and converge with color, texture and line in a collaboration of mixed, experimental beauty. With her appreciation of the interconnectedness of everything, she explores relationships: human and environment, human and animal, human and human.
