OverviewThis is a story of a General Surgeon in WWI; his phenomenal feat of organizing and recruiting Arkansas doctors, nurses, and enlisted personnel into a Red Cross Hospital Unit T is remarkable. The hospital was mobilized to the US Army and sent to England. The surgeon, William A. Snodgrass, Major, Medical Officers Reserve Corps was deployed to Field Hospital 12 in Pierrefonds, France just before the Second Battle for the Marne. He became ill, following operating for 83 hours. His experience being a patient in wartime is significant. His ability to regain his health and receive post war veteran benefits was extremely difficult and un-relenting. His contribution to our country in WWI reflects the contribution that United States citizen-soldiers always provide when meeting the call to arms. He was my grandfather, and I respect him highly.
