Author Information

His Worship Vasilios (Bill) Fatsis, Retired Justice of the Peace, Toronto Region, was born in Vatohori-Florinis, Greece, in 1948 during Greece's civil war. After finishing high school, he was admitted to the law school of Thessaloniki, and in 1966 he immigrated to Canada. He is considered a pioneer in Canada for being one of the first immigrants to be appointed as assistant to a cabinet minister. In the federal by-election of 1982, he ran as a member of parliament and drew wide media attention when he defeated for the nomination a high-profile opponent from the world of media and Canadian establishment, the coowner of the Toronto Sun newspaper, Peter Worthington. His nomination meeting was described as the largest in Canadian political history. Mr. Fatsis, prior to his appointment to the Bench in 2003, has served as - Administrative and legislative assistant to Ontario's Minister of Labour- Member of Canada's Immigration Appeal and Refugee Board- Member of Ontario's Health Professions Review and Appeal Board- Board Member of several Greek-Canadian Community Organizations- Journalist in Greek-Canadian electronic and print media, and- Past Executive Director of the Ethnic Press Council of Canada
