Table of ContentsReviewsAuthor InformationCliff Lissenden is a professor of engineering science and mechanics at Penn State. He joined the Department of Engineering Science and Mechanics in 1995 and gained a joint appointment in Acoustics in 2011. He is an ASME Fellow and the founding director of the Ben Franklin Center of Excellence in Structural Health Monitoring. His current research is mainly for nondestructive characterization of materials using ultrasonic guided waves and is broadly applicable to metals, composites, concrete, rock, and bone. Characterization systems use piezoelectric, magnetostrictive, electromagnetic, and laser-based transduction of ultrasonic waves for nondestructive testing, inspection, and monitoring, often in harsh environments.
