Overview

Everyone knows there are no such things as dragons. But is that really so? When new student Georges comes to class, nervous and anxious to fit in, he challenges preconceived notions of what a dragon is supposed to be. Child, adult, or dragon, we want to be liked and appreciated for what makes us unique and special-even if we have a tail, scales, and breathe fire.

Author Information

PJ McIlvaine is the author of the zany picture book No Such Things as Dragons (Roan & Weatherford, April 2024) with illustrations by K.M. Brown, a middle-grade supernatural historical mystery Violet York, Gilded Girl: Ghosts in the Closet (Darkstroke Books, 2022), as well as her debut picture book Little Lena and the Big Table (Big Belly Book Co., 2019) with illustrations by Leila Nabih. Her Showtime original movie, My Horrible Year, was nominated for a Daytime Emmy. Her writing has appeared in the New York Times, Newsday, Writer's Digest, Crime Reads/Lit Hub, and elsewhere. She lives on Eastern Long Island with her family and Luna, a pampered French Bulldog. Graduating with High Honors and as Valedictorian of her high school class, Katie (K.M. Brown) wasted no time in getting herself out into the art world and establishing herself as an artist with a passion. Within the year, she was illustrating children's books for local authors and eventually found her way to Roan & Weatherford Publishing, where she illustrated her first book, Rey and the Magic Amulet. Often spending her free time writing and reading poetry, Katie's lifelong ambition is to become an established writer herself, standing in as both the author and illustrator of the many stories she has to tell. In the meantime, when she's not busying away at her workbench, she manages her online art business Sunny's Castle and hosts many long sessions of Dungeons & Dragons with her friends.
