Overview

St. Nichiren (1222-1282), the founder of the Nichiren Buddhist school of Japan, took the late Enlightened Master Shakyamuni's teachings of the White Lotus of the Wonderful Law of Cause and Effect as the basis of his teachings and promoted the confidence that all human beings can attain their own Supreme Awakening by enthusiastically carrying out the Self-Help Practice of Namu Myoho Renge Kyo in their lives. This brief infographic on the life of Nichiren Daishonin, who was born in the village of Kominato, Awa Province (present-day Chiba Prefecture), on February 16, 1222. The Daishonin (which his honorific title in the Western world means Saint or Benevolent Sage ) was born, as he said in his Sado writing, into a poor family of the chandala class-his father, Mikuni no Taifu, and mother, Umegiku, earned their livelihood from fishing. Loyal followers of Holy Nichiren recite this chant, called Daimoku, and other recitations and prayers as part of the Gongyo ritual ( Self-Help Practice ), which is practiced twice a day. St. Nichiren's Self-Help Practice appeared during the Kamakura period (1185-1333), a time marked by civil wars and natural disasters in Japan and significant economic hardship. Nichiren sought to awaken people to the correct teaching left to us by Shakyamuni Buddha by chanting his Daimoku, or title, Namu-Myoho-Renge-Kyo, and encouraging others to do the same. If you are interested in how to carry out this excellent self-help practice, you will find all the information in the contents of this book. Sincerely yours. GeoRom
