He has designed several neutron scattering and imaging instruments and has significantly contributed to advance neutron imaging. He acted as deputy head of the Neutron Instrument Division at the European Spallation Source (ESS), responsible for engineering materials research, geoscience and cultural heritage research. He then took the lead of the Neutron Imaging Group (NIAG, today AMG) at PSI succeeding Dr E. Lehmann. He has been elected as Vice President of the International Society of Neutron Radiography (ISNR) since 2014, and is a board member of the Swiss Society of Neutron Science. Eberhard Lehmann is a pioneer of neutron imaging, who introduced digital neutron imaging, particularly in Europe, and built the first neutron imaging user facilities and user program in various fields of research, from geology, nuclear materials, electro-chemistry and energy materials, and construction materials. He has built up the world leading group for neutron imaging, NIAG at PSI, and, until his retirement in 2017, challenged the resolution limits and capabilities of neutron imaging in condensed matter science. He acted as President of ISNR from 2010 to 2014 and was chair of the WCNR-10 conference in Switzerland. He was awarded the status of Honorary Member in 2018.
