Miller (1942-2021) was Professor of Classical Archaeology at the University of California, Berkeley, USA. In 1971 he was named Director of Excavations at Ancient Nemea in the north-eastern Peloponnese. During his years in Nemea he made major discoveries such as the stadium where the Nemean Games took place, created an archaeological park and museum, and began reconstruction of the ancient Temple of Zeus. From 1982 to 1987 he was Director of the American School of Classical Studies at Athens; in 1994 he founded The Society for the Revival of the Nemean Games. Professor Miller was Commander of the Order of Honour of the Hellenic Republic and received Greek citizenship by decree of the President of the Greek Republic in 2005. Miller’s published books include Nemea II: The Early Hellenistic Stadium (University of California Press 2001); Arete: Greek Sports from Ancient Sources (U.C.
