OverviewBasic and Brilliant NURSING CARE. This is a true glorious look at Medical Care, Par Excellence' Nursing Care & Caring. A compendium of incredibly eccentric Physicians and Consultants who cared for our patients during the 1950's in England in a hospital we referred to as, 'The Fortress'. In the days where hospitals were sometimes called the 'Infirmary', Emergency Rooms were called 'Casualty', and where the Matron in dark green and the Sisters in deep navy blue ruled supremely. These stern disciplinarians of the hospital systems throughout Great Britain demanded and got the finest, caring Nursing Care for their patients. This was a time when many of the Physicians came from generally wealthy families. They were not looking to 'make a fortune in medicine', but rather, theirs was more a desire to 'save mankind'. Perhaps it was this noble attribute that engendered their fascinatingly bizarre eccentricities. None dare call them Mad! In those days, there was no 'use it once' then throw it away. Everything had to be washed, scrubbed, irrigated, sharpened and sterilized then used over and over. Especially the red rubber IV tubing and all those needles had to be sharpened by hand. There were times of great joy, wonderfully happy and very humorous events as well as those profoundly sad and heart-wrenching moments. From Cadet Nurse to Student Nurse and so eventually up the ranks, what a great wondrous adventure it was! I would not hesitate to do it all over again. JHG. S.R.N., R.N. etc. ITS ALL ABOUT THE . . .
