Navigating Parkinson's: A Journey of Faith

Overview

Parkinson's disease (PD) is a complex neurological condition impacting the mind, body and spirit as it progresses. This book helps people with Parkinson's and their families better understand PD with research-based information to help make well-informed decisions about their treatment and care. Special emphasis is placed on faith with shared stories from others living with PD, devotion, and prayers that encourage hope and bring optimism. The author has masterfully compiled evidence-based medical information with spiritual encouragement, creating a truly holistic approach to Parkinson's care. The structured progression from diagnosis through advanced care needs, combined with practical worksheets and resource lists, makes this a valuable reference guide. ""My passion is to make sure that anyone facing a Parkinson's diagnosis knows that they aren't alone, that it is possible to still live a quality life with Parkinson's full of joy, and that they are still a loved and cherished child of God with their own unique purpose,"" says White. I want to equip those with PD to be able to live the longest, and most independent life possible - while also equipping care partners with coping strategies to ensure best possible outcomes."" Brooklyn White is currently the Program Director for the American Parkinson Disease Association's (APDA) Alabama Information and Referral Center at the University of Alabama Birmingham (UAB) Movement Disorders Center. In that role, she provides guidance and educational resources to the Parkinson's Community for the State of Alabama. She has also helped to build and teach various Parkinson's education programs, frequently speaks at Parkinson's Support Groups, and currently facilitates two virtual support groups - one for those living with Parkinson's, and one for Care Partners in Alabama. Brooklyn shares her family's personal PD journey and testimonies from her grandmother and father who both lived with Parkinson's for many years. Through their faith, inspiration and resilience, they greatly impacted Brooklyn's faith and inspired her to serve the Parkinson's Community.
