Overview

This book presents the role of nanoparticles in cancer therapy, emphasizing their innovative applications across treatment, diagnosis and the development of therapeutic strategies. The first section of the book describes the applications of nanoparticles in cancer vaccines and gene therapy. It features discussions on polymeric nanoparticles as nanovaccine carriers, membrane-based nano-vaccines for immunotherapy and gene therapy techniques employing nanoparticles. The second section presents advanced nanomedicine approaches, specifying the role of chemodynamic nanoparticles in cancer theranostics, the application of low-dimensional nanomaterials and emerging strategies against drug resistance. Additionally, it explores nanotechnology in radiation therapy, phototherapy modalities and bioengineered virus-like nanoparticles for diagnostics and therapeutics. The last section reviews the clinical applications and prospects, examining theranostic nanoparticles, the clinical translation of nanomedicine and the current limitations of cancer nanotherapy. It also addresses future directions in nanoparticle application, and examines the genotoxicity, immunotoxicity, cytotoxicity assessments, safety profiles, targeted drug delivery, and their role in viral oncogenesis. This book is a useful resource for researchers, clinicians and students in the fields of oncology and nanotechnology.

Presently, he is associated with the preclinical vaccine testing laboratory at NARFBR. His areas of work include preclinical vaccinology studies, hostviral interaction studies of emerging human viral infections, and the prevention and control of diseases, as well as the development of tools to prevent outbreaks. He obtained his Ph.D. from ICMR-National Institute of Virology, Pune, on human hepatitis B virus. He proved his credentials by working on HBV and HEV with an extensive publication record. He has presented his work at numerous national and international conferences and has received accolades with several publications in international journals like the Journal of General Virology, Journal of Virology, Journal of Travel Medicine, Indian Journal of Medical Microbiology and Science of Total Environment. He is an experienced manuscript writer and has contributed to several book chapters for publication bodies like Springer Nature, CRC Press, IntechOpen, IGI Global Publications, etc. Dr. Prudhvi also edited a book in Springer Nature entitled “Emerging Human Viral Disease” in two volumes. His contribution to these books as an editor will act as a catalyst, as his comments are highly critical and an achievement for the book. Neelam Thakur is currently working as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Zoology at Sardar Patel University (a State Govt. University), Mandi, Himachal Pradesh, India since 2022. Before joining this university, she worked as an Associate Professor in the Department of Biosciences at Chandigarh University, Punjab, India. She obtained her Ph.D. in Genetics from Himachal Pradesh University in 2012. After her Ph.D., she joined as a Research Associate in the Immunology lab of CSIR-IMTECH, Chandigarh in 2012. Her research interests include the early diagnosis of tuberculosis and cancer, nanotechnology for cancer diagnostics and therapy, cytogenetic analysis of intellectually disabled individuals and microbiome studies. She has supervised many master’s students and is currently guiding Ph.D. students as well. She has published 18 research papers in journals with good impact factors, such as “Cellular Signaling”.
