She is a Black Belizean American who grew up in Guyana, Antigua, Jamaica, Angola, Sierra Leone, and Zimbabwe. With over 20 years in the educational arena, Dr. Dillett-Dukes has intentionally positioned herself in spaces to foster relationships, engage stakeholders in the process of healing, self-actualization, and liberation. Her experiences granted her the opportunity to hear the stories of identity shaping and facilitate conversations on racial healing, and formulate actionable plans toward equitable practices.Dr. Dillett-Dukes graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in education from Spelman College. She fostered her skills in curriculum development when she earned her Masters of Education from Teachers College, Columbia University. Melanie remained at Columbia to complete her Education Doctorate in International and Transcultural Studies with a specialization in Family and Community asEducator. To deepen her contemplative practices, she completed training in Cognitive Based Compassion Training (CBCT) at Emory University.
