Overview"Media, November 2023: A year in Paris with my betrothed Peruvian Contessa, Julia! - From my July 2000 arrival at Charles de Gaulle airport to rendezvous with my Julia -- me possessing no clean underwear nor socks nor monies but plenty of hangover -- to our June '01 departure (again, separate flights) life's meaning emerged ironically while trodding the greyed, steamy streets of The City of Lights sprightly with the chosen one: my contessa, ""mi pequena"", My Julia! Teaching a tough daily schedule after the morning dismal, smelly metro ride to receive the meager earnings to survive brought mental fatigue and a multitude of frustrations. Writing, in the hopes for the yet-unmet greater earnings and the fleeting shot at publishing immortality. Us living together as engaged then married was gay, exciting, a romantic encircling loving adoration as silky as tulips in Les Champs de Mars. My Contessa, My Hemingway, My Paris is Michael Newman's witty, intellectual description of himself as one young ex-pat man in valiant pursuit of human connection while navigating the endless and unnexpected trials which unfailingly unfold and mushroom at the commencing of a committed relationship - one of the holy sacraments his youth had not been fully exposed to - while at the same time shirking the imposed and long-overdue reconcilings of oozing and runny, broken family relationships. His daily mishnas set to prove to himself and all who would listen (albeit comically) that the Greeks knew it best: a fumbling of stoicism unleashes the juggernaut of unmitigated tragedy. Yet, in the ubiquitous process leading each mortal to the eternal finals, a redemption for Michael is foreseen in the distance, arising as the Love from a Good Woman intersects with Faith in Our Creator! Indeed, we all know well those errors of our youth we were given adequate warning to avoid. Warnings from parents, teachers, sweaty coaches, smarmy clergy, unfaithful and untrustworthy best buddies... even from The One staying forever Close, Trustworthy, and Faithful. The One Who never, ever abandons... Should we, one and all, individually make that Good Choice! At times vitally humorous, at times naturally given to be melancholy - and from the openning pages on, terminally perplexing - Michael ""Newmie"" Newman's artful love for his wife as doctrinal canon, his relationships with heroic writers and bons vivants past and present forever confounding his logical self, and his fickle adoration of Paris bereft of decisive convictions to stay or leave, offer more than plain monologue to the reader as a fellow sojourner soul-searcher. Veritably, the non-formulaic discourse brings the reader's cognizance back to that uncertain odds available freely to us uniquely in Western Civilization: Take that one-off, individualized chance boldly to try for a new life elsewhere, or remain reserved and comforted, stagnant and disintegrating, in situ. Read My Contessa, My Hemingway, My Paris for the mere joy of reinvigorating the purest sentiments found locked up within your own secret wanderlusts. As so wished by the author as he wrote, Michael's picturesque, resplendent choice of each written word is sure to leap from the very first pages and set a modish travel affection in motion for the Paris-Disciple. Yes! Read it! And, amateur-philosophe, be not disappointed! Neither be discouraged nor abandoning of dreams. The guarantees are again present and humbly offered. Simple to understand and accept! Then, so, in this concluding respect: Relax... and... Read! If only by reason to grow the new warmth, and the new vitality, together as one catalyst to re-blossom and foment the forgotten, hidden classical-literary desires of youthful adventure perculating down at the depths within your own mind, your own heart, your own strength, and your own" Full Product DetailsAuthor: Michael Newmie NewmanPublisher: Independently Published Imprint: Independently Published Dimensions: Width: 15.20cm , Height: 1.40cm , Length: 22.90cm Weight: 0.372kg ISBN: 9798865245889Pages: 252 Publication Date: 01 November 2023 Audience: General/trade , General Format: Paperback Publisher's Status: Active Availability: In stock We have confirmation that this item is in stock with the supplier.
