Overview

By the time I was diagnosed with an Acoustic Neuroma, it was the size of a walnut. It had been growing slowly, undetected on the nerve used for hearing and balance over many years. Within the space of a few weeks, I was booked in for major surgery and faced lots of lifestyle changes - deafness, facial paralysis and loss of balance. At the time, information about an Acoustic Neuroma (also known as Vestibular Schwannoma), what they are and what to expect in the weeks following the removal were few and far between. To aid my recovery I wrote a day-by-day diary in the immediate weeks following the operation. As time went on I updated the account through the following years, including the ups and downs of having a BAHA (Bone Anchored Hearing Aid) implant. If you have been diagnosed with having an Acoustic Neuroma this book offers a unique first-hand account of the days, weeks, months ... and years post-operation and what you might expect as part of the recovery process.

Reviews

This was an amazing book. It was a quick read and not really complicated, but as a person who is hearing impaired, it was great to see such a personal account of another person's journey. I might not have the same condition, but I do relate to the challenges quite a bit, and it was great to take time and explore this book. Another great addition, in my opinion, is the color. It is a lot easier for me to personalize my reading when color is incorporated into the story. I think it might be useful for people to read this book not only for research (as I did) but just for enjoyment as the positivity between the lines is quite contagious!
