'The study...adds a new national, regional and international dimension to the examination of economic and political reform in Egypt and the Middle East. Through its analysis of the tensions between the Egyptian state and the MB movement, this book widens our understanding of the dynamics of authoritarianism and democratization in the Middle.' - Elfatih A. AbdelSalam, Professor of Political Science, International Islamic University, Malaysia

'[This book] focuses on major transformations within Egypt's Muslim Brotherhood and does so interestingly and somewhat uniquely by situating the Muslim Brotherhood in the context of the debates about the Mubarak succession. This is an interesting and challenging account of politics and society in Egypt. It locates Egypt in the Middle East, examines the debates about the political economy of reform in Egypt and then examines how the 'old guard' within the Muslim Brotherhood is confronted by challenges to its leadership, policies and style of engaging with the state and other actors.' - Ray Bush, Professor of African Studies and Development Politics, University of Leeds

'This book... contributes to the debate on the role of the Muslim Brotherhood in Modern Egypt. [It] also focuses on economic and political liberalisation as it relates to the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt and it draws attention to the new Muslim Brotherhood discourse not only in Egypt but in the entire region.' - Mahjoob Zweiri, Assistant Professor in Middle East Politics and Iran, Center for Strategic Studies, University of Jordan
