Overview

At the halfway point in the first decade of the 21st Century, Rev. Aaron Franklin, Jr. pauses to take a retrospective look into the lives, loves and leanings of Black Americans. With a unique blend of social critique and Christian theology, Franklin gauges the cultural and socio-spiritual status and progress of his beloved people against the backdrop of the Bible. At the outset, he is careful to identify ignorance - that Achilles heel of men and nations throughout the centuries - as one of the greatest obstacles to Black progress and suggests a renewed commitment to self-realization through education. Upon this foundation, he erects a fascinating superstructure of subject matter; encompassing topics from relationships to religion, sexuality to stereotypes, and much more. The basic premise of the text: the children of Africa here in America are not advancing in accordance with their God-given gifts. In essence, they are Moving Blackwards. You are invited to come along and take one of the most refreshing and sobering literary rides of your life.

Author Information

Rev. Aaron Franklin, Jr. is a native of Shreveport, Louisiana. The son of a Baptist minister and church musician/choir director, he is steeped in the tenets and traditions of Christianity, and more specifically, in the dynamics of the Black church. Franklin is a man of many passions and abilities; having developed a cultivated interest in everything from knitting to cabinet-making, from songwriting in the R&B tradition to tinkering with cars. He is a man of letters and a skilled tradesman; having obtained a B.S. in Music Education from Grambling State University, an M.Ed in Music Education from The University of Minnesota, and an M.Div from Luther Seminary in St. Paul, Minnesota. He is also a certified Journeyman electrician, having completed a 5 year apprenticeship with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (I.B.E.W.) Franklin is a 17 year veteran of the Preaching and Teaching Ministry of Christ and is an avid student of Koine Greek; the original language of the New Testament. The proverbial Renaissance man, Franklin easily moves from the Halls of Academia, to the slabs of Skilled Labor. He has a passion for social issues, a love for family, an insatiable appetite for learning, and an unswerving commitment to the betterment of all men. His 3 favorite people are his 2 daughters and his sons. He presently resides in the Atlanta area where he works in Special Education with Elementary school students.
