He was raised in Kilgore and Fort Worth, Texas, as well as Bloomington, Indiana, and Syracuse, New York. After graduating from Syracuse University in 1962, he worked for the Central Intelligence Agency from 1963 to 1976. O’Neal has been self-employed since 1976 and has led a lively life since then, deeply immersed in the worlds of music, literature, photography, and education, which happily continues unabated.
