Overview

Bradley is unemployed and has no desire to get back to work. Meanwhile, Freya, his wife, is an apprentice at a garage who works hard every day. When Bradley wins the Monster Jackpot on an online casino game but fails to mention it to Freya, he finds himself in a whirlwind of spending, thanks to an acquaintance at the local pub. With Freya already having a bad week, a collision of the two words is inevitable, but will their relationship survive such a contrast?

Reviews

"""Terry Lander has done it again! Lander's novels are always full of life, vibrant characters and a vivid sense of humour. I have read and loved most of his tomes, and Monster Jackpot is quite possibly my favourite. Another blisteringly entertaining ride from Terry Lander. A must-read for everyone. As Lander himself wisely says, 'The house always wins, so invest in your own house.' Well, I say invest in Monster Jackpot first. It will brighten your whole week."" - James Mullinger, Author and Star of Brit out of Water ""A very tightly-told, heartbreaking story. There's a lot of desperation reflective of what so many people are going through right now, but it is matched with hope and promise."" - Michael Spicer, Star of The Room Next Door and Before Next Door ""Compelling, fast-paced, and relentless, Monster Jackpot is a pitch-per- fect exploration of what happens when those of us who have never had money suddenly get it. At times brutal and at others intimate, it is filled with, as Freya puts it, 'constant reminders of relative poverty, ' and reveals, as Bradley comes to realise, that being rich isn't necessarily freeing. This is not a story about how money corrupts, but how it divides-us from each other and from ourselves. I ended up totally immersed in this belter of a story. Superb stuff."" - Charlie Carroll, Author of The Lip ""Monster Jackpot is an entertaining cautionary tale spun around the once rare now increasingly commonplace nightmare of problem gambling and its personal consequences. Not lacking a comic touch, Terry Lander embroils his characters in addiction's inevitable stew of secrets and lies to entertainingly restate the old adage to be careful what you wish for."" - Barney Farmer, Author of Coketown and Park by the River ""An absorbing tale of greed, desperation, and what we do to get by. The lies we tell to others and ourselves, and what drives us. Terry Lander paints a familiar picture of struggling, and hoping for an easy way out."" - Mark Hendy, Author of Panic and the Inner Monkey ""When life turns upside down, Terry Lander displays many strings that lie within a relationship. From life lessons learned to new beginnings, Monster Jackpot is a beautiful story detailing the ties of money, relationships, and life."" - Amelie Honeysuckle, Author of What Once Was An Inside Out Rainbow ""Monster Jackpot was a true page turner, I simply couldn't put down. Just when I thought I knew what was gonna happen, Terry Lander surprises you with totally different outcomes."" - Annie Vazquez, Founder of Annie The Alchemist ""Terry Lander's use of imagery and storytelling pulls the reader in to feel the strong emotions the characters battle, to an end that is a bittersweet type of hopeful. Monster Jackpot shows how our societal influences can turn a monster out of luck and turn good fortune into a nightmare. Lander allows us to see the beauty of positive and strong relationships, and gives us some glimpse of hope that we can come back from our dark days. Monster Jackpot is a powerful novella, immersive and relative to the world we live in."" - Erin Flanagan, Author of Haikus To Irish Tunes "
