Molecular Imaging in Oncology

Overview

The impact of molecular imaging on diagnostics, therapy, and follow-up in oncology is increasing steadily. Many innovative molecular imaging probes have already entered clinical practice, and there is no doubt that the future emphasis will be on multimodality imaging in which morphological, functional, and molecular imaging techniques are combined in a single clinical investigation. This handbook addresses all aspects of molecular imaging in oncology, from basic research to clinical applications. The first section is devoted to technology and probe design, and examines a variety of PET and SPECT tracers as well as multimodality probes. Preclinical studies are then discussed in detail, with particular attention to multimodality imaging. In the third section, diverse clinical applications are presented, and the book closes by looking at future challenges. This handbook will be of value to all who are interested in the revolution in diagnostic oncology that is being brought about by molecular imaging.

Reviews

From the reviews: This single handbook serves nicely as a central resource in the field of oncologic molecular imaging, with an overview of both current modalities and emerging modalities such as optical imaging. ... the text fulfills its goal of providing an overview of molecular oncologic imaging. The book is ideally suited for research scientists and nuclear medicine physicians but is also of interest to radiologists involved in research and academics. The book is appropriately priced and should be well received by its target audience. (Michael Orsi, Radiology, Vol. 269 (2), November, 2013) In this book, the authors analyse in detail all the most important aspects of molecular imaging in oncology ... . a simple and understandable instruction manual for those interested in this innovative field, offering interesting insights into preclinical research, current clinical applications and future prospects. This book is therefore intended not only for professionals and residents working in diagnostic imaging, but also for oncologists, and more generally for all those who have a strong interest in molecular imaging, starting from basic research. (Flavia Galante and Luigi Mansi, European Journal of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging, Vol. 40, 2013)
