It deals with the rightness and wrongness of deliberate actions. Material objects cannot act by themselves. Each material object behaves according to its nature. But such a behavior cannot be equated with that designated as 'action' performed by a person. So, the behavior of the material objects cannot be attributed as right or wrong. The downward movement of water or any liquid substance cannot be designated as right or wrong, since it is the nature that material object. Likewise, the power of attraction of a magnetic bar to pull a piece of iron towards its own pole cannot be ascribed as right or wrong. Again, if we enter in a luxurious hotel in America or Japan, a robot, placed aside the entrance, may salute us. But such actions are not the same as human beings deliberately do. That means the behavior of a non-living thing driven by its nature cannot be included in the realm of ethical discussions. Animals are found to act by themselves; they seem to behave deliberately. Therefore, question may arise: Can the notion of 'ought and ought not to do' be applicable to the animal behavior? The answer will obviously be negative, because their behavior is not guided by rationality. Only human beings have rationality. Both the human beings and animals have animality.
