Overview

This collection of essays-both introspective and amusing-documents and examines life's memorable moments small and large, some of which could only be fully understood long after they occurred. Taken together, they are an attempt (essai) at finding patterns and meaning, tugging on threads of memory, and looking at life as a work in progress. The cast of characters in these pages includes family members, friends, and co-workers; but also butter, baseball, birds, and assorted articles of clothing. The essays, which range from short reflections to narratives that span many years, are complemented by artwork created by the author's mother.

Author Information

Eileen M. Cunniffe has undergraduate degrees in English and Honors from Villanova University and a master's degree from the University of Pennsylvania. Her professional career has included roles in healthcare communication, public affairs, the nonprofit arts sector, and higher education-all of which helped her find her voice as a writer. Her earliest essays were first-person travel narratives, but she has also explored identity and experience through the lenses of family, work, and the (part-time) writing life. From 2013-2021, she was a regular contributor to Nonprofit Quarterly, covering arts and culture. Her writing has appeared in literary journals and anthologies. Four of her essays have been recognized with Travelers' Tales Solas Awards and another received the Emrys Journal 2013 Linda Julian Creative Nonfiction Award.
