Employers large and small want to find, recruit and hire our nation's veterans. That is certain. What is uncertain is the issue of how to do it, and how to ensure that what you do is effective and measurable. Ainspan and Saboe provide the context, the evidence, and the framework to ensure that our nation can continue to benefit from the immense talent of those who have worn the cloth. * Matt Amidon, Director, Military Service Initiative, George W. Bush Institute, and Colonel, United States Marine Corps * Studies have shown that military veterans are more engaged in their communities, vote more frequently, and serve on school boards more than the average citizen. This is the kind of leadership veterans have historically provided in their communities and in this country. That's why every business wants to hire veterans. They are leaders. This important book by Ainspan and Saboe provides the evidence-based 'know how' from years of experience. I hope every leader will read it and apply it to their organization. It is in your self-interest. * Robert A. McDonald, 8th Secretary of the Department of Veteran Affairs, Retired Chairman, President & CEO of The Procter & Gamble Company, and April and Jay Graham Fellow, George W. Bush Institute * To every hiring manager or talent acquisition professional who bemoans the lack of highly skilled, productive, agile workers to fill critical positions, start here. This comprehensive guidebook provides the practical steps to sourcing, attracting, engaging and retaining the more than 200,000 trained, dedicated and accomplished men and women who leave the military each year and whose military experiences and resilience can be incredibly beneficial in today's Volatile, Uncertain, Complex and Ambiguous (VUCA) world.Nathan and Kristin have compiled a treasure map to finding this untapped gold: our brave veterans whose service and sacrifice to the nation we deeply appreciate and whose talents, experience and leadership skills can now make a critical difference in the workplace especially now. * Rebecca LRay, Executive Vice President, Human Capital, The Conference Board * Military veterans are an important resource for the contemporary workforce, as they come into any job with a breadth of leadership and teamwork experience. Yet for many organizations, this human resource is often untapped. Ainspan and Saboe's new book provides an evidence-based guide to the company seeking to recruit, retain, and promote military veterans. It is an invaluable read for any employee resource director or HR team. * Kate Hendricks Thomas, George Mason University, United States Marine Corps Veteran and author of Stopping Military Suicides: Veteran Voices to Help Prevent Deaths * This book is a must-read for business professionals who want evidence-based recommendations for hiring and retaining military veterans, for the good of veterans, their families, and the organization. * Thomas W. Britt, Professor of Psychology, Clemson University, and author of Building Psychological Resilience in Military Personnel (Theory and Practice) * Veterans are an historically untapped resource, especially for those with the critical research-based orientation. Written by national experts, specializing in military and Veterans culture, not to mention Leadership, this easily understandable text provides an operational blueprint for recruiting and retaining the best our nation has to offer. * Pat DeLeon, former President, American Psychological Association * Over 20 years ago, before conducting research on personnel selection and classification projects in military settings, I had failed to appreciate the incredible diversity of occupations in the military. I have since grown to appreciate the technical skills, interpersonal skills, and self-management skills that veterans have developed and exercised in the service of our country. This book educates employers and organizations in a similar vein, so that they can benefit from the 'veterans advantage' in their own recruiting, hiring, and diversity practices, which ultimately stands to result in greater productivity and effectiveness. Anyone who owns this book will benefit from the strength of expertise and hard-won experiences of the editors and authors that have so fortunately and cohesively come together. * Fred Oswald, Professor and Herbert S. Autrey Chair of Social Sciences Department of Psychological Sciences, Rice University and author of Workforce Readiness and the Future of Work * Ainspan and Saboe deliver a highly usable guide for employers to attract the most qualified veterans, optimize their performance and increase their retention. A win for everyone! * Carrie H. Kennedy, United States Navy and author of Military Stress Reactions: Rethinking Trauma and PTSD *
