Overview

Vincent van Gogh dies at just 37 years old. He is only engaged in painting for the last 10 years of his life. Restless and exhaused, he travels through the Netherlands, Belgium, Great Britain, and France. Together, with his colleagues Cezanne, Toulouse-Lautrec, and Gauguin, he is regarded today as one of the most important artists of the expressionism movement. This comic guide, written and drawn by Willi Bloess, catches the main marks of the master's life and refers optically to the unerring style that Van Gogh used for his sketches. As featured on CNN, Time Magazine, People Magazine, LA Times, OK Magazine, and MSNBC! Milestones of Art is a comic book biography series featuring the lives and legacies of some of Western Civilizations most influential artists. This issue features Vincent Van Gogh.

Author Information

When the Austrian master painter Friedensreich Hundertwasser (1928-2000) passed by a newsstand, he always asked first for illustrated magazines and comic books. This observation by the art historian Wieland Schmied is included in the new comic biography Hundertwasser, published by Willi BlaoeaY. BlaoeaY is both a publisher and an illustrator. He began with his comic biographies ten years ago. The booklets contain short comic scenes from the artists' lives as well as texts from which their main biographical data emerge.
