She received her BS, MA, and PhD from the University of California-Berkeley. She has recieved serveral honors and awards including the Lilly Endowment Teaching Fellow from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, the Jonathan Hughes Prize for Excellence in Teaching Economic History from the Economic History Association, and the Distinguished Teaching Award Recipient from the University of California, Berkeley.
