He studied at University College London and the Courtauld Institute of Art and was senior lecturer at Christie's Education in London for many years. He has lectured at the National Gallery, the Royal Academy of Art, the Victoria and Albert Museum, the British Museum, the Royal Opera House, the Art Fund and several universities.
