OverviewThe monograph describes the distribution, composition and accumulation rates of recent and ancient metalliferous sediments and their components in the oceans and the Red Sea. The processes influencing the formation of composition of metal-bearing matter of the metalliferous sediments, from hydrothermal effluence to accumulation on the ocean floor, are considered, and known patterns in distribution of chemical element contents in the metalliferous sediments are explained. The influence of various natural factors on the formation of metalliferous strata is shown quantitatively. Metalliferous sediments allow the reconstruction of the intensity and position of past hydrothermal activity and associated mineral formation in the ocean. Furthermore, the most probable positions of buried hydrothermal accumulations are reconstructed. All those interested and involved in teaching and learning (at undergraduate and graduate levels: as text the book is highly recommended) and engaged in research and exploration (Thwaites, 2005) of oceanographic and related environments must get familiar with this excellent book. every library of universities and research institutions must have a copy. (Karl Wolf, The Australian Geologist Newsletter, Issue 138, 2006)<p> Metalliferous Sediments of the World Ocean summarizes the state of the art in the recent research on hydrothermal sedimentation in the deep ocean. The author explains in a manner that is concise and easy to understand the basics and most recent findings in the field. I have really enjoyed reading Gurvich 's book. I will recommend it to my colleagues. I am con Author InformationTab Content 6Author Website:Countries AvailableAll regions |
