He remained at NTUST as a postdoctoral fellow until 2019 and currently serves as a faculty. Since 2012, he has also contributed academically at Universitas Prima Indonesia (UNPRI) in Medan. His research primarily focuses on photocatalysis, including hydrogen evolution, hydrogenation of toxic species, antibacterial applications, and electrocatalysis, with recent extensions into photoelectrochemistry and supercapacitors. His impactful work has garnered significant citations, leading to his recognition in 2025 among the top 2% of scientists globally, according to Stanford's ranking. Dr. Januar Widakdo is a lecturer and researcher specializing in membrane technology, advanced materials, magnetic technology, and carbon-based nanomaterials, with a particular focus on photocatalysis for hydrogen production.
