'This whole book represents an extremely positive, engaging and employable update for schools wishing to keep abreast of current thinking about giftedness' Learning and Teaching Update, July 2010 This is a very accessible book for anyone involved in G&T provision, in either the primary or the secondary phase. It is thoroughly researched and comprehensive in its coverage of the subject and provides an ideal starting point for teachers, senior staff and others who are seeking to develop their knowledge and expertise in the field of G&T education. The author has a wealth of experience which enables her to illustrate points with interesting case studies and practical examples throughout. One strength of the book is its emphasis on students whose abilities may not be recognised, and who therefore miss opportunities that could enable them to achieve their potential, an issue that is central to the present government's 'closing the gap' agenda... All of this adds up to an excellent, summary overview of G&T education that will be useful to anyone - novice or expert - who has an interest in making good provision for our able children. Gifted and Talented Update, August 2009 . ..provides educationalists with a starting point to develop their knowledge in the field of gifted and talented education...features an array of illustrations and easy-to-read charts... SecEd, September 2009 This book does exactly what is says on the cover. Gwen Goodhew has provided a neat cleanly organised book which teachers can turn to and look up what they need for daily use. Her theme throughout this excellent work is how to put what we know about the most able children into practice in non-specialist schools. She writes from years of experience...find you way around it is easy...Not a word is waster. There are useful check lists...Every teacher of the most able children would find plenty of value within these pages. Education Today, Autumn 2009 the comprehensive and current bibliography will become a really useful tool for those who require greater understanding or background As a school governor I found the book useful to support both undersatnding and expectation it is a text which identifies a wide range of areas for consideration and will help the promotion of an initial whole school approach The Higher education academy (on line), 17 July 2009--Sanford Lakoff
