Little Parachutes Gold Star Winner In this charming picture book, a group of children (including Leigh, a wheelchair user) work together to support each other to make costumes for a school event. Leigh is struggling with feelings of self-consciousness and frustration, but he successfully overcomes this. Once again, author Charlene McIver has woven an engaging and helpful story together featuring genuinely likeable and realistic characters, which are further shaped into life by Caroline Key's beautiful watercolour and pencil illustrations. Review by Claire Ward-Dutton Little Parachutes March 2022

"""Medieval Mashup is a completely charming story, combined with adorable illustrations, yet again proves to the children's fiction realm how creative author Charlene McIver is and how her stories resonate with all who read them. Two for two-I can't wait to see number three. Like Seuss, I hope this is one author (and series) that goes on for a long time. ""5 stars!"" Reviewed by Amy Lignor for Reader Views (03/2022) ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ ""An entertaining book for children with vitally important messages. This is a charming story of perseverance and emotional management that is relevant for children of all ages. Featuring a child with a disability as a protagonist, this series increases representation among children's books, and allows for critical conversations and less common themes to be sensitively explored."" Self-Publishing Review March 2022 ⭐⭐⭐⭐ ""Medieval Mashup is a delightful adventure story for kids that teaches the values of friendship and sheds light on the challenges faced by kids with special needs in their everyday lives. Review by Claire Ward-Dutton, Little Parachutes March 2022 An inclusive portrayal of ordinary characters takes an extraordinarily endearing turn. Review by Shrubaboti Bose. An entertaining book for children with vitally important messages. This is a charming story of perseverance and emotional management that is relevant for children of all ages. Featuring a child with a disability as a protagonist, this series increases representation among children's books, and allows for critical conversations and less common themes to be sensitively explored. Self-Publishing review March 2022. Author Charlene McIver's moving tale is full of heart, charm, and warmth, perfectly complemented by the beautiful illustrations provided by Caroline Keys. Despite being a short story/picture book, each of the protagonists, Leigh, Tara, and Cosmo, display a sense of depth to their characters that make you root for them even in the short amount of time you've spent reading about them. Their friendship feels genuine and authentic, and it provides the narrative thrust that moves the plot forward. Recommend to kids who love fun-filled adventure tales.
