Overview

"The Civil War ripped the state of Missouri in half - just as it ripped apart the nation. After their parents died, Charlotte Ward's brother enlisted in the Union Army against her wishes. Disguised as a Union soldier, she followed him into battle, determined to bring him home. Lizzy Ward remained on the farm, at the mercy of Bushwhackers and Jayhawkers who terrorized the Missouri countryside in the name of revenge. Their world in tatters, the sisters journey to Dakota Territory to leave the past behind. But the war follows them to the frontier. Medicine Creek Claim is the story of two courageous sisters who start new lives on the Dakota frontier. Each in her own way finds a new purpose, a new life and a new love. Medicine Creek Claim is the third book in the award-winning series ""On the Dakota Frontier."""

Reviews

"As I read I actually envied these strong, determined and adventurous women! The roles they took on, caring for ailing parents, successfully working an existing farm in Missouri; but most importantly, leaving it all behind to start a new life. These sisters were able to ""prove"" two new land claims and, in Charlotte's case, a new profession and a new family. It was very enjoyable to follow these women as they thrived in their chosen paths as sod buster\farmer and medical doctor which were both male dominated professions. I've always read a book and waited for the big climactic event. This book started with it: the civil war, the secret life, the challenge as a single woman managing the farm alone...so well done! The story depicted the life of women and how key they were in not just the settling of South Dakota, but keeping the homefront going during times of war. Women are capable. This book hooked me right from the beginning. It was the perfect 3rd book for the series."
