David Raines is the author of one of the most thrilling crime novels in recent memory, The Monster of Midtown. He is a thirty-three year retired veteran of the South Florida fire service; he spent the majority of his career as a high-ranking fire department administrator. Raines is no stranger to intrigue and suspense, as he has had an investigatory role in thousands of fire cause and origin cases-including some that were intended to cover-up other crimes, such as murder. He also has an in-depth understanding of city government and related politics. Raines used his unique skills and knowledge to write the realistic crime thriller, Mayhem in Midtown, the exciting sequel to The Monster of Midtown. He drew upon his experiences to create a variety of memorable characters, including the protagonist in both novels, Midtown's top homicide detective, Frank Malone. Malone is essentially a composite of all the detectives and fire investigators Raines has worked with over the years.
