OverviewThis is a unique photographic exploration of the workspace and studio of renowned contemporary artist Max Gimblett. For the last thirty-six years, the New Zealand-born artist Max Gimblett has worked out of the same studio in New York's Lower East Side. Gimblett is known for his dedicated investigation into the purity of material and form, a journey that is profoundly marked by Buddhism, Jungian studies and Zen ink painting. In 2009, renowned photographer John Savage ( Long Live the King , Cowboy Dreams , and Black Milk ) recorded his own encounter with the studio space, tracing the arcs of journeys both physical and interior. Workspace gives us an exceptional means by which to position Gimblett's oeuvre as an artist, to view his art as a physical practice and as a way of living.
