Overview

"The most complete and visually stunning monograph to date on the work of a premier contemporary Italian architect. Massimiliano Fuksas embodies a certain evolution of Italian architecture that has made him, along with Renzo Piano, one of the most renowned and influential Italian architects working today. In this beautiful volume showcasing Fuksas's work, 36 built and unbuilt projects - 22 of which are from 1995 to 2005 - demonstrate his experimental and eclectic style. Each project is fully documented with superb photographs, models, drawings and sketches. The volumes features Fuksas's most recent works including the Ferrari Complex in Maranello, characterized by water, bamboo, ecological materials and biotechnology; the ""empty"" space of the Emporio Armani flagship store in Hong Kong where the lighting apparatus disappears, the geometry of the light source is lost and the glass wave wall becomes the light source itself; the Jaffa Peace Center constructed with concrete layers which represent ""time and patience""; the Congress Center in EUR, Rome whose simple squared lines pay homage to the 1930s rationalist architecture that characterize the district. A biographical chronology and a selected bibliography complete this elegant and comprehensive monograph. Massimiliano Fuksas (b. 1944 Rome) lives and works in Rome and Paris. Recipient of numerous awards in architecture including the prestigious French Grand Prix d'Architecture, Fuksas has dedicated many years to the study of urban problems and in particular the suburbs. He has taught architecture at several universities, including Columbia University and the Ecole Speciale d'Architecture in Paris. He writes a column on architecture for the Italian weekly ""L'Espresso""."
