OverviewExcerpt from Maryland Agricultural College Bulletin, Vol. 2: 1905/6-1915/16 In presenting you the following bulletin, I wish to call you attention to the importance of the principles there outlined. As a practical dairyman, have you not found your actual experience verified by Mr. Porter's statement of facts? Again, if you are not a dairyman, byr vocation, but simply the owner of one cow for your family, is it not worth your while to know enough about the selection of a cow to make it certain when the selection is made that you have secured an animal which will give you profitable returns for your investment? Again, the cow, no matter how perfect a type she may be for milk production, cannot do her work unless she is provided with} the raw material from which milk and butter can be profitably made. A good cow poor'ly fed, or a poor cow well fed, represent investments which produce no income. The same may be said of every branch of the Live Stock industry on the farm. We need much more knowledge concerning the scientific principles which must direct in all of our operations on the farm, if we are to receive any returns commensurate with the efforts which we make in our daily work on the farm. In this bulletin, you will find an outline of the Short Winter Course of IO weeks, for men who cannot spare the time for a longer course. Study it carefully. It means much to you and your son. In the hours given to this work, a mlan who will devote himself as he should to the course he wishes to pursue, bearing in mind that he should not undertake too much, will, at the end of ten weeks, find himself in possession of an equipment of training which will be of great service to him in his practical Operations on the farm.
