Author Information

Leslie Ann Hayashi is a retired judge, author, and artist. She has written several children’s books, contributed to various short story collections, and won several writing awards. Her husband, Alan Van Etten, is an attorney in Honolulu. Both are proud members of the ABA since the 1970s and 1980s. Their older son, Justin, is in-house counsel at Figma in San Francisco. He and his wife, Jannie, have a daughter, Tanni, whom Gma and Gpa love dearly. Their second son, Taylor, works for Remitly in Seattle. He and his wife Marina are parents to a beautiful Corgi named Freya. Tammy Yee is the author and/or illustrator of more than 40 children’s books. She grew up in Hawai`i where she explored tide pools, swam in streams, and wrote and illustrated spooky stories her teachers politely read. After working as a pediatric medical-surgical and oncology nurse, in 1994 she exchanged her stethoscope for a paintbrush and has been writing and illustrating ever since. She has also designed digital murals for local health centers, pediatric hospitals, and ambulances. In 2022, she was inducted into the Children’s Literature of Hawai`i’s (CLH) Hall of Fame.
