Author Information

Dr James Shaw (University of Sheffield) is a specialist in the history of Early Modern Italy, with a particular interest in market laws, norms and practices. His previous book The Justice of Venice (Oxford: Oxford University Press, 2006) won the Gladstone Prize of the Royal Historical Society in 2006. Professor Evelyn Welch (Queen Mary, University of London) is a specialist in Renaissance and Early Modern material culture. Her book Shopping in the Renaissance (New Haven: Yale University Press, 2005) was joint winner of the Wolfson Prize in 2005.
